BMT Acquires New Company

April 1, 2004

BMT Defence Services Ltd, a subsidiary of British Maritime Technology Ltd (BMT), the multi-disciplinary engineering and technology consultancy, has today acquired Bertram Martin Consulting Ltd (BMC), the engineering investment appraisal and cost modelling consultancy.

BMC is well known throughout the defence industry for its work in forecasting the through-life costs of major design and procurement projects and appraising potential research and development investments. It has also applied this expertise to the offshore industry.

BMC will become a business unit of BMT Defence Services, the naval engineering and design services subsidiary, reporting to Managing Director Andrew Tyler. The new acquisition complements BMT’s existing expertise in engineering, design and acquisition management services in the defence sector.

BMC operates in a market which is expanding both in the UK and internationally. With a renewed focus in the defence industry on ensuring that procurement projects are delivered within budget and on time, its services are in great demand. BMC’s six strong team will continue to be led by its founders Andy Hardwick and Paul Jones and will shortly relocate to BMT’s offices in Bath.

Roger Swann, Chief Executive of BMT commented: “BMC is an excellent strategic fit with BMT’s existing businesses. Its highly experienced consultants combine engineering excellence and financial acumen – a rare and valuable commodity in our industry. We believe this an exciting opportunity to take an innovative and holistic approach to managing opportunities and risks in a range of defence projects.”

“Joining BMT Defence Services will be a catalyst for rapid and sustained growth at BMC. It will provide us with the scale and resources to consolidate our position in our existing markets and potentially diversify into new sectors, benefiting all our customers,” said Andy Hardwick, BMC’s Operations Director.
