EPA Approves VapCor Cleanol HDW1 for ‘Safer Choice’ Program

November 11, 2016

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has accepted VapCor Cleanol HDW1 into the Safer Choice program. This is a related program to Designed for the Environment (DFE) an environmental program run by the EPA that helps consumers, businesses and purchasers find products that perform well and are safer for human health and the environment.

This new program requires a performance criteria and also categorizes the various cleaners by industry and makes different requirements within the category. VapCor Cleanol HDW1, in the marine category, can now be considered an EPP (environmentally preferred product) as per VGP 2013.

The additional benefit of VapCor Cleanol HDW1 is that it has been tested by top OWS and oil monitoring manufacturers and found to have no effect on the operations of the OWS or the monitors. An independent lab tested VapCor Cleanol HDW1 and those tests showed that VapCor Cleanol HDW1 reduced an existing emulsion of gear oil by 19 percent. This reduction could impact the amount of water in a sludge tank.
