August 9, 2013

The Coast Guard assisted three boaters whose 27-foot pleasure craft ran aground near Salem Friday.

A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Philadelphia safely transported the three boaters ashore in Salem where they planned to get a hotel for the night.

After a one-hour transit, the Station Philadelphia boatcrew located the boat aground south of Salem in Cherry Tree Creek at approximately 3:30 a.m.

"They were very happy to see us," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew Lyon, a member of the boatcrew from Station Philadelphia. "We found them more easily since they were using flares, thankfully."
