Murray & Associates Hosts Third Fishing Challenge
A group of industry professionals from the commercial maritime sector gathered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. at 8 a.m. on February 8 to participate in Murray & Associates LLC’s 2014 Fishing Challenge.
The naval architect and marine engineering group hosted the tournament for the third consecutive year as a way to gather clients and maritime business professionals for a day of fishing on Florida’s beautiful waters. “We love to fish,” said the event’s organizer and president at Murray & Associates, Bill Murray, “and I think it’s a fun way for people to come in from colder climates to come to Florida, catch some fish and do something they’ve never experienced before.”
In total, the tournament drew 60 participants, including representatives from, ABS, Advanced Mechanical Enterprises, American Petroleum Tankers, BAE, BLT Chembulk Group, Carnival, CCL, Crowley, Detyens Shipyards, Dometic, Fertig & Gramling, Flagship Management, General Ship Repair, G & G Shipping, Goltens, Grand Bahamas Shipyard, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, High Seas Technology, ICI, LNG Shipping and Maritime, Moran, Murray & Associates, North Florida Shipyards, Pantropic Power, PK OEM Parts BV, Seabulk Tankers, Seabulk Towing, Seacor, Southport Consulting, Trans Marine Propulsion Systems, Tripp Scott P.A., US Shipping Corp. and ZF Marine.
Nine charters and three private boats embarked Saturday morning, but it was the vessel “Marlin my Darlin” that returned with the most fish caught, earning the Top Boat Sailfish award at the awards ceremony and cocktail reception at the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) Hall of Fame and museum in Ft. Lauderdale.

Murray said plans are already in motion for next year’s event, which will aim to raise money for charity.
