Blount Boats, Inc. becomes the eighth shipyard company to join Green Marine.

“We’re already committed to delivering vessels that exceed our clients’ expectations and now wish to go beyond compliance in our work in terms of the environment as well,” says Marcia Blount, the company’s president. “The Green Marine framework is tailor made for the marine industry and scalable to our size of operations. It will provide guidance towards greater sustainability for our shipbuilding activities.”

Green Marine further expands its shipyard and U.S. East Coast membership by welcoming Blount Boats, Inc. into the environmental certification program. “Blount Boats increases the shipyard participation and is very timely with Green Marine releasing a new performance indicator for ship recycling in the coming year,” adds David Bolduc, Green Marine’s executive director. “It is also rewarding to see more shipyards joining from the U.S. East and West Coasts, the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence region, and British Columbia.”

The Green Marine environmental certification program addresses key environmental issues through 12 performance indicators that include greenhouse gases, air emissions, spill prevention, waste management, environmental leadership, and community impacts – some applicable to shipping activities, others to landside operations. The certification process is rigorous and transparent with results independently verified every two years. Each company’s individual performance is made public annually.
