Caterpillar Launches New Marine Analog Power Display

Caterpillar has made available its new Marine Analog Power Display (MAPD), a monitoring system for electronically controlled Caterpillar marine engines. Cat MAPD combines the accuracy and dependability of electronics with the simplicity and visual clarity of conventional analog gauges. MAPD consists of electronic, data-link-driven analog gauges and a control module. Various sizes and types of gauges are available, including two- or three-inch diameter tachometer, temperature, pressure, voltage, percent load, fuel rate and fuel level gauges. The two-inch diameter gauges have warning lamps for fault conditions such as high coolant temperature or low oil pressure. The three-inch diameter tachometer gauges have an LCD window to display engine hours and diagnostic codes. The gauges are supported by the J1939 data link, which is connected to a control module that transmits information through a separate gauge communication link to individual gauges. Each control module can support as many as 12 gauges, and a maximum of eight MAPD configurations (display stations) can be installed on one engine data link. The gauges can be installed in any arrangement to complement the vessels’ control stations. Each gauge is LED backlit, automatically calibrated and contains both English and Metric units. All gauges are constructed to withstand harsh marine environments. The basic MAPD package consists of the control module and necessary basic harness, adapter and termination resistor assemblies. Each optional gauge can be ordered to fit the OEM and end users’ requirements.
