With North American Occupational Health and Safety (NAOSH) week well underway across the continent, Seaspan welcomed Walter Gretzky to its Vancouver Shipyards to underscore the importance of health and safety in the workplace.

Hockey’s most famous father addressed Seaspan employees with a powerful speech, sharing details from a personal industrial accident and reinforcing the message that everyone plays a vital role in the health and safety of their workplace.

“Even one injury is one too many,” said Walter Gretzky. “We all have to ask ourselves the question, are we as safe as we think? Building a culture of safety and health at work, home and play benefits everyone.”

Today’s VIP visit from Gretzky was in accordance with NAOSH week, a North America-wide event celebrated in Canada, the United States and Mexico. NAOSH week gives employers, employees and the general public an opportunity to reflect on current safety practices and determine how they can be improved to better protect people in the workplace.

Gretzky’s appearance also coincides with the ongoing development of Seaspan’s new safety initiative titled “CSI” or “Continuous Safety Improvement.”
