Port Newark Container Terminal Celebrates Grand Opening

The Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) will celebrate its official grand opening of the $175 million terminal redevelopment project at a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow, September 26, 2002. The ceremony will begin at noon at the PNCT facility, located at 241 Calcutta Street in Port Newark, NJ. Joseph Assante, president of Port Newark container Terminal, will host the event and HRH Prince Andrew, The Duke of York will be guest of honor. Members of the PNCT Board of Directors as well as other distinguished members of the Port Authority of NY & NJ, State of New Jersey and local officials will also be in attendance. The redevelopment features state-of-the-art upgrades to the terminal’s gate complex with the installation of OCR gate technology, six new Post Panamax cranes, 54 straddle carriers, cargo handling machinery, new pavement, and the most advanced terminal management systems available to date. In addition, PNCT has a near-dock rail facility, which was created exclusively for PNCT users.
