Nordlund Celebrates 50 Years

January 8, 2009

Nordlund Boat Company, Inc., of Tacoma, Washington, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.  Nordlund was founded in 1958 by Norm and Phyllis Nordlund and Walt Silva.  At their side from the day they could walk were the Nordlund children, Paul, Gary and Karen.  Today the company is run by Paul and Gary.

"Family-run boat yards are rare today," said Paul Nordlund, president.  "Rarer still are those that have been around for 50 years.  Our team includes craftsmen who have been with us longer than some boatyards have existed."

Since switching to fiberglass in the early 1970s, Nordlund has been devoted to building the highest quality boats with progressive technology, craftsmanship and attention to detail.  Nordlund yachts are 100% custom-built to the owner's specifications.

Each yacht is unique, to the point that Nordlund does not use model numbers or "fancy names," unless the owner really wants one, in which case "we'd be happy to make one up."  Working closely with owners during the building process is important to the Nordlunds, believing that designing and building should be as fun as boating itself.
