November 7, 2001

Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard, ASRY, in Bahrain has become the first shipyard in the world to be awarded ISO 9001-2000 Certificate. This certificate was awarded to ASRY on October 18 by Det Norske Veritas, the Norwegian Certification Authority and is in recognition of the Quality Management System it has in place in the yard. The ISO 9001-2000 certificate is an enhancement of the broader version of the ISO 9002 certificate, which was developed two years ago. Eivind Grostad, Vice President for DNV, presented the award on October 31 in Bahrain. Mohamed Al Khateeb, ASRY’s chief executive, said “It was in recognition of the outstanding work the yard had done in the past two years in improving its entire quality assurance procedures and that it was a hallmark for which other yards throughout the world were trying to achieve.” Khateeb also paid tribute to the dedication and commitment of the entire workforce at ASRY.
