UK Navy Chooses Effer Crane Again

July 30, 2015

Cranes manufacturer Effer informs its marine crane has recently been installed aboard the U.K. Royal Navy’s patrol vessel HMS Mersey.
The new 5s 275M crane, similar to those already aboard HMS Severin and HMS Tyne, was installed the first week of June in Falmouth, Cornwall, and Preffered Marine, Effer partner for the UK and Ireland, was on hand to facilitate the installation and conduct final tests on site.

HMS Mersey is dedicated to constant patrolling of both United Kingdom waters and an area extending up to 200 miles into the Atlantic Ocean making sure that fishing boats and fishing vessels comply with agreed international quotas. According to Effer, this continued activity requires tools that are reliable, secure and robust over time.
Effer claims to have a long history of cooperation in the naval sector, especially with the British Royal Navy, so it has replaced the old Effer crane model already on the ship with a new production model.
It is a 275M 5s equipped with a two-ton winch. The model is very flexible (the 275M 5 hydraulic extensions can reach 14.47 meters, lifting 1370 kg) and they are easy to use in confined spaces. This is essential to avoid bumping equipment and naval armaments on board, Effer explained.
