Shetland Coastguard has produced 22 Radio Broadcasts for Shetland Island Broadcasting Company, covering Shetland, Orkney and North Scotland on 96.2mhz. To alert members of the public to dangers at sea and around the coastline. Clear advice is given on how to avoid the dangers and what to do in case of an emergency to get help quickly. On the Website you can listen to MP3 sound clips on Water/Beach Safety, Medical Diving Advice, Fishermen and Explosive Objects and Someone in Trouble at Sea, to name but a few. About 65% of the accidents that we deal with are linked to recreational and leisure activities. With a booming economy and pleasure craft industry we can expect the numbers of people involved to grow over the next five years. We continue to inform those who use our shores and seas for recreation of potential dangers that can be minimised by a few simple precautions. To be successful, new ways of conveying simple but vital safety information are being adopted, that can be readily understood by those at sea and on the shore.
