Coast Guard Commandant Gives State of Coast Guard Speech

In his State of the Coast Guard speech, Admiral Thad Allen, Commandant, US Coast Guard, laid out his vision for how the service would approach the challenges ahead. He noted that it faces a dramatically changed operational environment. In order to be responsive, he plans to establish a unified Operations Command and a single Mission Support Organization. Admiral Allen also released a new Coast Guard Strategy, which has three primary goals: strengthen maritime regimes; increase domain awareness; and enhance operational capabilities.
