Ferry Committee to Decide on Firm

August 21, 2006

A committee could decide this month on a consulting firm that wants to operate a ferry across the Chesapeake Bay. Committee spokesman says the transport would be between Somerset County in Maryland and Reedville on Virginia's northern neck. The Maryland-Virginia Ferry Committee tentatively has set August 29th to review a proposal by MetroMarine Holdings that would include a plan for vessels, prospective operators and start-up loans or grants. MetroMarine will submit steps to follow for an implementation phase. The Maryland-Virginia Ferry Committee cut ties last month with Martin Associates, a Pennsylvania consulting firm that turned in a ferry economic impact study incomplete after a three-month extension.
