Security Committee to Hold First Meeting
The National Maritime Security Advisory Committee will hold its inaugural meeting in the conference center at the Sheraton Suites, Old Town, at 801 North Saint Asaph Street, in Alexandria, Va., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4. The meeting is open to the public.The committee members, who were appointed in December, will be sworn in and briefed by Department of Homeland Security officials on national maritime security issues.
The committee consists of a variety of maritime industry stakeholders and is designed to provide advice to the Department of Homeland Security via the U.S. Coast Guard on matters such as national maritime security strategy and policy, actions required to meet current and future security threats, international cooperation on security issues, and security concerns of the maritime transportation industry as mandated by the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002.
At the committee chair’s discretion, members of the public may make oral presentations during the meeting. Those who would like to make a presentation must notify Lt. Cmdr. Bruce Walker by February 18. Written material intended for distribution to committee members must be submitted to the Coast Guard by February 23. Lt. Cmdr.
