Royal Swedish Navy Chief Conferred Award

March 5, 2004

RADM Jörgen Ericsson, Navy Inspector of the Royal Swedish Navy, was conferred Singapore’s prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) or Meritorious Service Medal (Military), by Minister for Defence, RADM(NS) Teo Chee Hean.

The Meritorious Service Medal (Military) was awarded to RADM Ericsson in recognition of the significant role he played in fostering the strong ties and good relations between the Republic of Singapore Navy and the Royal Swedish Navy. With his support, the Republic of Singapore Navy has successfully conducted its submarine crew training in Sweden. The comprehensive and rigorous training that the Republic of Singapore Navy submariners received has greatly enhanced their professional abilities in submarine operations.

RADM Ericsson has also been instrumental in promoting the exchange of professional knowledge in Mine Counter-Measures through the Lejon-Singa exchange program, and the exchange of visits and cross-attendance of courses between the two navies.

These interactions have not only enhanced the professionalism of the Royal Swedish Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy, but also deepened the rapport and understanding between their officers and men.

RADM Ericsson made a courtesy call on RADM(NS) Teo before the investiture ceremony. He also called on Chief of Defence Force, Major-General Ng Yat Chung, and met his counterpart, Chief of Navy, RADM Ronnie Tay.
