December 7, 2000

Corrado Antonini, executive chairman of Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, has been re-appointed to the presidency of the Euroyards consortium for the next two years, Fincantieri said on Wednesday. Euroyards brings together the main shipbuilding industries of France, Germany, Spain and Italy in a European Economic Interest Group (EEIG).

The consortium was set up in the early 1990s mainly to meet growing competition from the Far East. It is active in the development of joint programs in the fields of research, new projects and purchasing in common.

Effective January 1, 2001, Antonini will also take on the presidency for the next two years of EDIG, the European Defense Industries Group.
