Transpetro Receives Proposals For The Construction of Eight Product Ships
This Friday, March 25, Transpetro received the technical and commercial proposals concerning the bidding for eight ships to be used in the transportation of oil by-products under the Fleet Modernization and Expansion Program (Promef). Proposals were received from Estaleiro Ilha S.A. (Eisa) and Estaleiro Mauá, both established in Rio de Janeiro.
Initially, the Bid Committee will review the technical proposals, according to the requirements in the bid notice. Afterward, the technical proposals will be opened. The results will be announced on a date yet to be defined.
With the completion of this bid, the contracting process of the 49 ships in the two initial phases of Promef will also be completed. The program revived the Brazilian naval industry on internationally competitive foundations. With the program, the expectation is that the fleet of Transpetro will exceed 110 ships in 2014. Today, Brazil is already the fourth country in number of orders for oil tankers in the world.
To date, Promef has ordered 41 ships, with an investment of R$ 9.6 billion, from the shipyards Atlântico Sul (EAS), Promar, Mauá, Eisa, and Superpesa. In 2010, three ships were put to sea under the program: the suezmax-type ship João Cândido, from EAS, and the product ships Celso Furtado and Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, from the Mauá shipyard.
The naval construction program of Transpetro, which is one of the main structuring projects of PAC (Growth Acceleration Program), has already generated over 15 thousand direct jobs. During the course of Promef, 40 thousand direct and 160 thousand indirect jobs will be created.
