MARAD and Russian Federation Hold Maritime Consultations

On December 4, 2002 Maritime Administrator Capt. William G. Schubert led the U.S. delegation in maritime consultations with the Russian Federation. Vyacheslav V. Ruksha, head of the State Maritime Administration, represented the Russian Federation.

During the consultations the delegations: · Exchanged information on maritime developments. · Explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of maritime transportation. · Affirmed the importance of cooperation in maritime security. · Resolved to facilitate cooperation in the field of maritime education and training between designated maritime institutions. The designated maritime institutions are the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the St. Petersburg Maritime Academy.
