Containership Crewman Rescued after Falling Overboard
A missing containership crew member was rescued from the sea Wednesday, roughly 5 miles east of Port Everglades, Fla.
After the 456-foot Liberian-flagged containship Vega Sagittarius moored in Port Everglades at approximately 6:40 a.m., they notified U.S. Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders of a missing crew member last seen at approximately 5:30 a.m.
The watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale 45-foot Response Boat—Medium boatcrew and a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to search.
The helicopter crew located the missing crew member, a 25-year-old Philippines national, and directed the boatcrew to his location. The boatcrew rescued the man and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services.
