International economic development in 2011 was rather more moderate than in the previous year. Total production worldwide went up by 3.8 %. In this second year following the financial and economic crisis, the significant growth stimuli once again came from the emerging markets.

The Liebherr Group was able to increase its turnover in the 2011 busi- ness year by 747.0 million € or 9.8 % to 8,334.0 million €. Once again, almost all the Group’s divisions contributed to this growth.

The maritime cranes division, with its mobile harbour cranes, ship, floating and offshore cranes, ship- to-shore gantry cranes, rail-mounted and rubber-tyred gantries, straddle carriers and reachstackers, increased its turnover by 78.4 million € or 10.7 %.

Its sales revenues in the review year were € 808.0 million. As in the previous year Far East / Australia, Western Europe and the American continent were this division’s most important market regions.

The workforce increased in size: in all, 2,354 new jobs were created, and at the end of the review year Liebherr employed a total of 35,333 people.
