Atlantec Enterprise Solutions has received an SBIR award from the U.S. Office of Naval Research for its proposal entitled "Connector Architecture for CAD and CAM Systems." In this project Atlantec-es will work with Electric Boat Corporation, Groton, CT and Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG in Germany to develop an open connector architecture that decouples CAD and CAM software applications. The solution promises to dramatically reduce implementation costs and provide greater flexibility when selecting best of breed CAD and CAM systems. It will also simplify and streamline the information infrastructure typically required to support shipyard production processes. And, importantly, the new architecture will also facilitate enterprise collaboration between shipyards, design agents, and subcontractors using different systems. "This is a great opportunity for Atlantec Enterprise Solutions to work with two of the world's leading shipbuilders. A project including a major U.S. naval shipbuilder like Electric Boat and HDW, a leading European shipyard, fits our business model of serving the global shipbuilding industry," said Bryan Miller, President of Atlantec-es at a National Shipbuilding Research Program conference in Williamsburg, VA.
