NORSHIPCO Gets $5.7M for Conversion

Norfolk Shipbuilding & Drydocking Corp. (NORSHIPCO), Norfolk,
Va., is being awarded a $5,720,897 firm-fixed-price contract
for the conversion of fast combat support ship USNS Arctic.
USNS Arctic was transferred from U.S. Navy's combatant fleet to
the Military Sealift Command fleet. A major portion of the work
to be performed under this contract includes habitability
modifications to support operation of the ship by civilian
mariners as well as repairs and modifications to other ship
systems. This contract contains options, which if exercised,
will bring the total cumulative value of this contract to
$6,750,897. Work will be performed in Norfolk and is expected
to be completed in January 2002. Contract funds will expire at
the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was
competitively procured with nine proposals solicited and four
offers received. The U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command
Atlantic, Norfolk is the contracting activity
