Shipping Coordinating Committee To Hold Meeting

The Shipping Coordinating Committee, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, will meet in Washington, DC on February 26, 2002. The propose of the meeting is to review the agenda items to be considered at the 47th Session of the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 47) to be held in London on March 4-8, 2002. Items on the agenda include harmful aquatic organisms in ballast water; recycling of ships; prevention of air pollution from ships; implementation of the Convention on Oil Pollution Prevention, Response and Cooperation (OPRC) and the Protocol thereto relating to Hazardous and Noxious Substances (OPRC-HNS); interpretation of and amendments to MARPOL 73/78; and harmful effects of anti-fouling paints for ships.
