STN Atlas Wins Contract for German Corvettes
June 6, 2003
STN ATLAS Marine Electronics has been awarded a major contract for
design, supply and installation of all electrical equipment aboard the
five new K130 class corvettes presently being constructed for the German
Navy by the ARGE K130 shipyard consortium comprising Blohm + Voss,
Lürssen, and Nordseewerke.
Under the contract, the Hamburg-based company will be responsible for
all switchgear, main and sub-systems as well as the planning, supply and
installation of cabling. Other facilities to be provided include
converters, lighting equipment, command and warning systems and power
backup in addition to a number of special systems such as those for
degaussing for magnetic self-protection. The contract also calls for
comprehensive tests and trials for an operational workplan covering all
items of equipment and measures to provide logistical support for their
continuing availability.
The first of the 292-ft. (89-m) vessels, whose advanced features include
significant reductions in radar and infrared signatures, is due for
commissioning in 2007.
