November 20, 2002

Upon entering the U.S. market, Austal USA, was quick to make a name for itself and occupy its ultra-modern shipbuilding shed in Mobile with a contract to built a pair of aluminum crew supply vessels for one of the country’s most sought after customers, Otto Candies LLC. The pair, Ana Paula and Veronica, are 150 x 27 x 7-ft. (45.8 x 8.3 x 2.6-m) vessels, each powered by four Caterpillar 3508Bs, which produce 1,050 hp @ 1,600 rpm each for a total installed power of 4,200 hp. Fully loaded, the vessel’s top speed is 26.5 knots. At the time the contract was awarded, Austal USA's Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Chris Pemberton, said "These aluminium vessels continue the recent trend towards high speed crew transfers to offshore platforms, improving productivity of the vessels but also allowing access to the deeper fields that are being developed."
