BAE Systems Launches New Royal Navy Destroyer

February 14, 2007

HMS Dauntless, the Royal Navy’s newest Type 45 destroyer, has been launched at BAE Systems’ shipyard in Govan on the Clyde, according to The Manufacturer. HMS Dauntless is the second of the new Type 45 class of anti-air warfare destroyers to be launched by BAE in the last 12 months. The VT Group in Portsmouth and BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions are each responsible for building and outfitting substantial sections of the ship, and these are then assembled on the Clyde. Three further Type 45s are currently under construction and work on a sixth ship is due to start soon. The Type 45s are some of the most powerful destroyers ever built for the Royal Navy – they can sail over 600 miles a day, and will be able to support global operation. Source: The Manufacturer
