General Dynamics Board of Directors Elect VPs

The board of directors of General Dynamics elected two new vice presidents of the corporation: Frederick J. Harris, 60, who will succeed Richard H. Vortmann as president of subsidiary National Steel and Shipbuilding Co. (NASSCO); and Chris Marzilli, 46, who will succeed Mark A. Fried as president of business unit General Dynamics C4 Systems. Harris and Marzilli will assume their new positions and become vice presidents of the corporation on January 1. Harris started with General Dynamics Electric Boat in 1973 as a senior engineer in the Trident ballistic-missile submarine program. He held positions of increasing responsibility, including Program Manager - Advanced Propulsion Plant Technology Program for the Virginia-Class Submarine, before being appointed to his current position of senior vice president for programs. As president of NASSCO, Harris will report to Michael W. Toner, General Dynamics executive vice president and group executive for Marine Systems. Marzilli has worked in the defense information systems and technology industry for more than 20 years, focusing for the past 15 years on bringing advanced command, control, communications, computing and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) solutions to the tactical battlespace. Since November 2003, Marzilli has been senior vice president and deputy general manager of General Dynamics C4 Systems. As president of General Dynamics C4 Systems, Marzilli will report to Jerry DeMuro, General Dynamics executive vice president and group executive for Information Systems and Technology.
