No Discharge Zone in Ohio waters of Lake Erie – proposal
August 31, 2004
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a Notice stating that it has received an application from the State of Ohio to have Ohio waters of Lake Erie designated a No Discharge Zone for vessel sewage. Normally, this is largely a matter of concern for recreational vessels. In this instance though, state waters extend out to the boundary with Canada. Commercial vessels transiting these waters, extending the majority of the distance from Buffalo to Detroit, would have to secure their automatic sewage treatment systems to prevent inadvertent discharges. Comments on this proposal should be submitted within 30 days. 69 Fed. Reg. 53067 (HK Law).
