Distinguished Rear Admiral Joins Marport Board

Ottawa, Ontario – May 4, 2011 – Marport Deep Sea Technologies Inc., a leading developer of Software Defined Sonar® technology, is pleased to announce the appointment of Rear Admiral Millard S. Firebaugh, USN (ret) to the Marport Board of Directors. Admiral Firebaugh has held distinguished leadership positions in research and development, naval ship and system design, submarine technology and advanced electronics.

Millard is an internationally recognized leader in naval technology and he brings a wealth of operational and engineering experience that will certainly benefit our undersea defence initiatives” said Bruce MacRae, Marport Chairman.

Admiral Firebaugh served for more than 33 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1995 as the Deputy Commander for Engineering and Chief Engineer for Naval Sea Systems Command. Previously, he was the Program Manager for the acquisition of the SEAWOLF Class of nuclear attack submarines. After retiring from the US Navy he became Vice President, Innovation & Chief Engineer at General Dynamics’ Electric Boat Corporation. In addition to his ongoing consulting work, Millard currently serves as Minta Martin Professor of Practice at the University of Maryland, College Park in the Department of Mechanical Engineering  He holds a B.Sc. in Physics, a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, a Naval Engineering degree and Doctor of Science in Ocean Engineering, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Admiral Firebaugh is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering.
