Costa Cruises’ new flagship, which will be named in Trieste on July 2, is in dry dock ahead of her official sea trials

Genoa – May 4 , 2011 – The Costa Favolosa, the new flagship of Costa Cruises, which is the largest Italian travel group, Europe’s no.1 cruise company and the only cruise operator whose fleet flies the Italian flag, has been dry-docked in the Port of Trieste until mid-May.

This provides a special preview of the new addition to the fleet for all of Trieste’s residents, who are also invited to join the Costa Favolosa’s spectacular naming event on July 2 in Piazza Unità d’Italia.

During her stay in the shipyard, the ship built by Fincantieri in Marghera will have her hull coated and cleaned, in preparation for the sea trials scheduled for later in May, when she will be put through her paces in the open sea, with a series of running tests on the ship’s systems, machinery and engines.

The Costa Favolosa, weighing in at 114,500 gross tonnage and with accommodation for up to 3,800 Guests, will be the largest Italian-flagged vessel and a symbol of Italian-made excellence plying the seas of the world.  Her naming event, open to the public and the whole city, will be a tribute to Italy, and for this reason it is being staged with the support and assistance of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Administration, the Trieste Provincial Administration, the Municipality of Trieste, the local Port Authority and the Prefecture.
