STS Young Endeavour Prepares for World Voyage
The Royal Australian Navy operated Sail Training Ship, Young Endeavour, is undergoing maintenance work in preparation for a 12-month world circumnavigation. It is the vessel’s first deployment of this nature in more than 20 years.
Darren Chester MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defense, visited Royal Australian Navy crew and maintenance team members to view STS Young Endeavour in the Captain Cook Graving Dock in Sydney.
Chester said the Royal Australian Navy contribution made to the Australian community through programs such as the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme was a credit to Defense.
“The Young Endeavour Youth Scheme delivers an internationally recognized program which develops teamwork, leadership, communication and resilience amongst hundreds of young Australians each year,” Chester said.
“The 2015 World Voyage will provide a unique opportunity for more than 200 youth to complete the Young Endeavour Youth Development Program while representing Australia at events such as the annual international Tall Ship Races in the North Sea and the 360th anniversary of the Royal Netherlands Naval Barracks Amsterdam, as well as being off the Gallipoli Peninsula during the Dawn Service on Anzac Day 2015.”
His Excellency General the Honorable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), governor-General and patron of the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme announced that Young Endeavour will set sail from Sydney on December 22, 2014 for the 12-month world voyage.
Berths on each of the nine passages will be allocated via ballot. Individuals who fall into the 18-30 eligibility age range are encouraged to apply for this opportunity to join a circumnavigation of the world aboard the national sail training ship Young Endeavour.
