Wan Hai Expands

September 23, 2002

Wan Hai Lines, Ltd. (WHL) will expand its U.S.-Asia service in the near future as part of its continuing commitment to increase capacity and improve customer service. Wan Hai is planning to replace five 1,600-TEU vessels in its U.S.-Asia service with five larger vessels of up to 3,500-TEU capacity. Additionally, it will acquire additional equipment and expand customer service and sales forces to support the increased vessel capacity and modify, as necessary, its current trans-Pacific service route for wider Asian port coverage. Wan Hai Lines’ vessels will continue to call at U.S. ports once a week with the added capacity, enabling the line to accommodate its growing client base in both the U.S. and Asia. Jason Lee, senior vice president of Wan Hai Lines, Ltd., expressed the line’s appreciation to its customers and what the expanded service will provide shippers. “Wan Hai Lines would like to thank our customers for their past business as we look forward to continued fulfillment of their shipping needs,” Lee said. “Wan Hai Lines has earned a reputation for timely port calls, competitive prices and excellent service. We are confident our expanded U.S.-Asia service will equal or exceed the expectations of new and existing customers alike, further enhancing our customers' own competitive edge. Our planned improvements to what is already the largest, most comprehensive intra-Asia service network will position Wan Hai Lines even better to accommodate the transportation needs of U.S. and Asian shippers and consignees in an efficient, economical and effective manner.”
