Korean Built Ferry to Have Flap-type Rudders
Flap-type 'Timon' rudders supplied by Van der Velden for DSME newbuild for Tunisian company
The fast (design speed 27 kt) 210 m long RoRo passenger carrier is being built for Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation (CoTuNav) to run between Tunisia, Italy and France.
The TIMON high lift flap-type rudder has a slide-bar flap linkage mechanism said to provide excellent manoeuvring performance.
The rudder profile is based on the well-known HSVA and NACA profiles and is considered most suitable for medium-speed and fast vessels requiring high manoeuvring performance. The rudder has apparenlty earned itself a strong reputation on various types of vessels, and the optimised slim profile functions equally well at virtually all speeds.
Van der Velden say their Timon rudder is low maintenance and has a slim profile.
