Kongsberg Launches FleetMaster Electronic Logbook

July 3, 2003

The FleetMaster Electronic Logbook is now commercially available. It provides an easier way of handling routines and reporting onboard ships, and offers many advantages over traditional paper logbooks such as a reduction in the need for double entries, the simplification of reporting and increased support for safer ship operations. Several shipping companies took part in the pilot scheme including Bergesen dy, Geoshipping, FT. Everard, Odfjell, Sartor Shipping, closing their paper logbooks in favour of Kongsberg Maritime’s advanced paperless solution. 6 ships are currently using the FleetMaster® Electronic Logbook with several installations planned in the coming months. Sartor Shipping AS is the owner of Ocean Sky, the first vessel in the world to close its paper logbooks permanently, in favour of an electronic version. President and Skipper, Karsten Hoyland is enthusiastic about the many advantages that Fleetmaster offers. “It will save us time and money in many ways. We are now able to monitor logbook entries remotely and updating couldn’t be easier. The system performed brilliantly throughout the trial, hence our decision to remove the paper logbooks completely,” enthuses Karsten. The Fleetmaster Electronic Logbook is currently approved by the following flag administrations; Norway (NOR/NIS), Sweden, Denmark, United Kingdom and Bahamas. Further flag administration approvals are forthcoming.
