Russia Orders New Krivak IV Frigates

United Shipbuilding Corporation, the Russian construction, repairs and maintenance industry, reportedly signed a contract with the ministry of defence for the construction of another three Krivak IV class frigates for the Russian navy, according to a report on www.avionews.com. The frigates are equipped with a 100-mm gun, Shitl medium-range air defense system, Club-N supersonic missiles, two Kashtan point defense systems, two twin 533-mm torpedo launchers and an anti-submarine warfare helicopter.
The agreement calls for the construction of the warships by 2016 and the first three frigates will be built in the Yantar shipyard, in Kaliningrad.
