Maritime connectivity services provider Globecomm has appointed J&E Papadopoulos as its new representative to the Greece and Cyprus shipping markets.

Established in Piraeus in 1968, J&E Papadopoulos SA is a distributor of marine spare parts, representing numerous European and U.S. manufacturers in the fields of components, power transmission products and engineering equipment for marine and industrial applications. The company also provides technical consultancy, vibration measurement and thermography analysis for the marine industry.

“As a long-term player in the Greek shipping market, we wanted a partner who could provide a complete range of connectivity options to fit the needs of all kinds of shipowners,” said Eleftherios Papadopoulos, managing director of J&E Papadopoulos SA. “Globecomm Maritime has the experience and knowledge to help our clients upgrade and enhance their maritime communications for business and crew."

The new agency agreement comes at an important time for the shipping industry and for owners in these key maritime markets. With VSAT becoming increasingly accepted in the market, Globecomm will be focusing on helping owners recognize the potential of its global Ku-band VSAT service.

Globecomm is also a Tier One re-seller of Inmarsat’s FleetXpress VSAT service and a maritime distribution partner for Iridium Certussm mobile broadband satellite service, which will offer robust high throughput performance, all of which can be deployed as hybrid satellite-GSM solutions.

Globecomm’s value-added solutions include the Nimbus smartbox, which can be used to control multiple connections via satellite and cellular networks while providing additional functionality for both enterprise and crew applications. Shoreside staff can use the cloud-based Cirrus portal to gain a practical overview of all shipboard communications usage in real time.
