Fishing Vessel Spills Diesel Near Gloucester Harbor

November 27, 2007

A fishing vessel spills 300 gallons of diesel near the Gloucester Harbor and its owner immediately calls in a private contractor to begin clean up operations. The U.S. Coast Guard says source of the spill was immediately secured and boom was deployed to contain the fuel in the water near the Western Venture, a 126-ft. vessel from Gloucester. A commercial contractor removed the diesel from the water and efforts will continue to extract any remaining fuel that could be recovered. Crews from Coast Guard stations in Gloucester and Boston together with the Gloucester Fire Department, the state Department of Environmental Protection and the Gloucester Harbormaster were on the scene to monitor clean up operations.
