Maersk Line Fast Growing in Pacific

December 3, 2015

Four years after launching a dedicated service into Papua New Guinea, Maersk Line is one of the key carriers in this fast growing Pacific country, claims Social Media Community of Maersk Line.

Papua New Guinea occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and its offshore islands in Melanesia, a region of the southwestern Pacific Ocean north of Australia.
One of the most culturally and geographically diverse nations in the world, Papua New Guinea (also known as PNG) is home to huge economic opportunities, thanks to significant endowments of gold, oil, gas, copper and silver – plus fisheries and fertile land.
PNG is also one of the poorest places on earth and like many developing countries, opportunities come with unique challenges.
Maersk Line’s service differentiators have proven a winner in tackling the tricky business environment and increased local presence is helping customers put their products on the global map.
Craig Lyon is Maersk Line Owner’s Representative in PNG. He says that while nearly all manufactured goods are still imported into the country, the market is growing across all sectors with a consistent year-on-year container volume growth of 4% on imports and 2-3% on exports. Overseas trade partners include Asia, Europe and Americas.
