Heavy Capacity Barge from Gunderson

September 24, 1999

Gunderson Inc. has launched a high-capacity deck cargo barge from its side-launch ways along the Willamette River. The barge, Signet Ulysses, was delivered to Signet Maritime of Houston. Signet Ulysses is an ocean-going, 300 x 100 x 20 ft. barge with an extremely high load capacity of 4,100 lbs. per sq. ft. of deck area. Signet designed its parabolic bow and specified corrugated bulkheads for strength and ease of cleaning. The smooth deck also features recessed bits and kevels for ease of moving oversize loads on and off. Signet will operate the barge carrying heavy loads of machinery and other supplies to drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and for special cargoes to Central and South America. The hull features a state-of-the-art zinc and epoxy coating system inside and out to ensure long life and ease of maintenance.
