DSME Building 5 Icebreaking LNGCs for Yamal

January 28, 2015

Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) is building five large Arctic Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers (LNGCs), for which it has LNG ordered membrane containment systems from designer GTT.
These five ARC 7 LNGCs for Yamal Trade are expected to be delivered between 2017 and 2019 and will be built with the NO96-GW technology, which allows an optimized boil-off rate of LNG cargo.
GTT said it recorded 10 similar orders for icebreaking LNGCs in 2014.
Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT commented, "The harsh Arctic conditions make transporting natural gas a huge challenge. GTT is very proud that membrane containment solutions were chosen for these new generation vessels."
