IMOIIMAX Stena Impression named in Singapore

February 5, 2015

The first of Stena Bulk's $400M, ten-vessel order was named in Singapore yesterday.

The Stena Impression is a IMOIIMAX 50,000 DWT MR chemical tanker owned by Stena Bulk and Indonesian's Golden Agri Resources (GAR). The ten ordered vessels will be operated by Stena Weco and will trade within the company’s logistical systems, which will include a fleet of more than 60 tankers. The IMOIIMAX tankers have been designed to transport both vegetable oils and chemicals, as well as clean and dirty petroleum products.

The Stena Impression will begin her maiden voyage to the US today with a cargo of palm oil. The Stena Impression’s godmother was Jesslyne Widjaja, Director of Corporate Strategy & Business Development for GAR. Her captain is Jacob Valiaveed.

The tanker, which was developed by Stena Teknik together with the Chinese shipyard Guangzhou, has 18 tanks of the same size, each with a capacity of 3,000 m3, which allows for increased cargo flexibility. The Impression sports a number of technical innovations, including increased boiler efficiency, propeller energy loss recovery, and accommodation and bridge aerodynamics, that result in 10-20% lower fuel consumption at service speed compared with other vessels of the same size.
