Public Meeting to Discuss Improvements to Deep Draft Vessel Route

October 8, 2003

The State of Maine and the Coast Guard are holding two public meetings to discuss potential navigation safety improvements after a recommendation by local pilots and tug operators that a deep draft vessel route be established on the Sheepscot River in Maine. The first meeting will be held October 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Department of Maine Resources Laboratory, located at the end of McKown Point Road, West Booth Bay Harbor, Maine. The Second meeting will be held Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wiscasset Municipal Bldg, located at the intersection of Route One and Route 27, Wiscasset, Maine. Any comments and observations concerning navigation aids and tendencies of deep draft vessels transiting the area will provide a valuable perspective for planning efforts. Public input will be important to obtain the most complete user concerns and suggestions.
