Conrad Industries, Inc. Hosts National Safety Seminar

October 12, 2004

Conrad Industries, Inc. hosted the 2004 Shipbuilders Council of America Fall Safety Seminar at their Morgan City, LA facility, September 22-23. Attendees heard presentations on current shipyard health and safety issues, including CO2 Total Fire Protection Systems, Rigging Safety, and Fall Protection Systems. The Safety Seminar takes place twice a year at SCA member facilities to share current shipyard safety and health information. The format brings together federal agency, industry and safety professionals to candidly discuss shipyard safety and health issues. Since the first Safety Seminar was held in the spring of 2000, SCA’s Total Recordable Incident Rate as an entire Association has declined more than 40%. SCA has also developed Strategic Partnerships, and Regional and National Alliances with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in order to promote safe and healthy working conditions for shipyard employees. Founded in 1948, Conrad Industries, Inc. designs, builds and overhauls tugboats, ferries, liftboats, barges, offshore support vessels and other steel and aluminum products for both the commercial and government markets. The Morgan City, LA-based company also provides both repair and new construction services at its four shipyards located in southern Louisiana and Texas.
