ABS Launches Web-based Container Information System

October 29, 2001

ABS launches an electronic-based container information system (E-CIS) for tank owners worldwide, providing quick access to inspection reports. With increased safety concerns regarding the transportation of dangerous liquids and gases, the ABS E-CIS program is timely. Available on the ABS website at www.eagle.org in the products and services category, the Oracle-based program has a password protected log in for clients who need immediate verification that a tank container is "not out of date" or who want to track their periodic inspections. A further feature of the program allows for on the spot printing of reports for a specific tank container to show proof that it has passed the required statutory inspection.

The tracking capability feature records tank container information gathered through the periodic survey so owners have an up-to-date picture as to the condition of their fleet including the recorded details of the pressure relief valves, test pressures and corrosion and pitting.
