First Contracts for Innovative Bulk Carrier Design
Deltamarin said that it entered into a contract with CSSC/Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co. Ltd. (China) for the design of B.Delta25 bulk carriers, the first contract for the 28,000 dwt bulk carrier.
Deltamarin will procure the Basic Design, part of the Detail Design and the Technical Procurement handling, and will also have a site team to ensure the continuity all along the design phases to production.
The vessels will have the following main particulars:
Length, o.a. 175m
Beam 27m
DWT 28,000 metric tons on 8.7 m
Deadweight of 25,000 metric tons on 8.0 m
Cargo 37,000 m3
The design is a single hull bulk carrier with shallow draft and good maneuvering capabilities intended for operation in restricted water depths, and very low fuel consumption, which has been the focus of Deltamarin in the design. The service speed at design draft shall be 14.0 knots and the model tested daily fuel oil consumption at design draft shall be 16.6 t including 15 % seamargin, ISO conditions. The EEDI shall be 23 % less than the requirements to come into force.
The solutions that enable such improvements to existing designs are a combination of hull form, propeller, rudder and main engine solutions applied in a novel way. Consistent results have been gained in model tests with all the B.Delta designs.
B.Delta25 strengthens the B.Delta series which includes also B.Delta37, B.Delta64 and B.Delta82 designs.
