Navy Approves International Paint's Newest Antifouling Product

June 20, 2011

International Paint’s copper free antifouling has received U.S. Navy approval to MIL-PRF-24647 Type I Classes 1 & 2, Grades A & B, Applications 1 & 4. This approval follows many years of research dedicated to meeting the US Navy’s stated aims of metal free fouling control. “This approval now allows government specifiers and end users an alternative option for fouling control, particularly in areas where copper free products are a prerequisite,” said John Mangano, Business Development Manager, International Paint Marine Coatings. “Additionally, without the presence of copper, Interspeed®5640 is very well suited for aluminium vessels.” Interspeed®5640 uses the very latest bio-degradable non-metallic biocide technology, offering excellent fouling control for military vessels trading in US coastal waters and beyond. This new product complements the company's existing range of antifouling products for the U.S. military and commercial marine sector, which also includes Interspeed® 640, Intersmooth® 460, Intersleek® 757, and Intersleek® 900
