Unique Engine Room Simulator for Interschalt
The new ERS 4000 system comprises one Instructor Workplace with TFT monitor for editing, conducting and debriefing of training sessions, and one trainee workplace which can be used for complex simulation of different ship types, including a RoRo ferry, a Container Ship, a General Cargo Ship and an LCC Tanker. Three TFT displays are used to show and operate all of the ships’ different sub systems (propulsion plant, Electric Power Plant and Auxiliary Systems).
Interschalt Maritime Systems AG, which offers a wide range of hardware and software solutions for the marine industry, also manufactures their own ship automation systems. As a unique and distinctive feature of the delivered engine room simulator, a selection of Interschalt consoles (Automation, and Emergency Switchboard) was interfaced by Transas to the ERS 4000 system. Real generator sets have been interconnected to the switchboards, allowing a realistic training environment for power distribution.
The required interconnection and wiring of approximately 300 analogue and digital hardware I/Os was carried out by Transas specialists with the help of Transas’ UHI (Universal Hardware Interface) technology, including additional programming for correct addressing of all components.
The ERS 4000 system now enables the customer to train Engine Room personnel in the operation of their own real automation consoles and devices, all signals being processed by the Transas simulator model. Initial training courses for the Engine Room Simulator have already started this autumn.
