KCI Konecranes for Gdynia Port

KCI Konecranes has been contracted for the design and supply of
two Post Panamax Ship-to-Shore (STS) container cranes for Baltic
Container Terminal (BCT) in Gdynia, Poland. The cranes will be
delivered before the end of 2006.
Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) achieved a throughput of 372,000 TEU
in 2004 and is on course for another healthy increase in throughput in
2005. BCT has seen consistent double-digit traffic growth since its
parent International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) acquired
the terminal in early 2003 under a government privatisation programme.
The order for the new STS container cranes follows on from extensive
investments by BCT in new and upgraded yard equipment designed to
raise the terminal’s annual throughput capacity to one million TEU
per/yr. This spring BCT took delivery of its second Panamax dimension
STS crane from KCI Konecranes, which will raise BCT’s annual
capacity to 600,000TEU/yr.
The new STS cranes have a wider outreach of 46 m enabling them to
handle containers for Post Panamax size vessels.
