BP Angola Selects Kongsberg Simulator

August 11, 2005

Kongsberg Maritime won a contract by BP Angola for the delivery of an Operator Training Simulator (OTS). BP Angola is to receive the OTS and additional services to train its operational staff for its new Block 18 Greater Plutonio Development Project located in deepwater, offshore Angola. The OTS, a dynamic process model based on ASSETT (Advanced, Simulations, Studies, Engineering and Training Tool), has been custom designed to meet the requirements of the project. The ASSETT design meets the highest requirements of real-time process simulation systems and provides a realistic and safe simulation of varying processes for the project. A plant process model can be examined and modified, so that the desired process and control system can be achieved. Snapshot and replay functions, an extensive high fidelity model library, online modification of variables and parameters, and a library for thermodynamic and physical properties are just a few of the components that create the ASSETT. David Hay, Technology Lead at BP Angola Operations Team says, "The operator training simulator is an important and exciting part of the portfolio of systems we will use to operate our new asset in Angola." The abilities of this system will help give assurance of staff competence at the Greater Plutonio development Project for various situations, including normal operation, start-up and shutdown, handling process trips, critical situations and emergencies.
